Club vice-president, Michael Booth returned from a long layoff from injuries sustained in competition early this year to wind the clock back 20 years and compete in the Pro 250 class.
Booth drove with expertise upon his return and finished with the club’s best result of the day in third position.
Easily the oldest rider in the class with all other riders at least 20 years his junior, Booth showed he still has plenty of fight left in him and improved as the meeting progressed.
Booth topped the weekend off with a first overall in the Over 35’s support Class.
“It was another great weekend and Australian Title meeting at Gunnedah,” Booth said at the awards presentation.
“I’m really not sure when I last raced a 250 in an Australian Title these young blokes (Mackenzie Childs first and Tom Herrick second) were quick all weekend and there was some great racing.
“I’d like to thank the O’Donnell family for giving me the opportunity to ride Tyler’s bike for the weekend, what a piece of machinery.”
Jarryd Oram started the meeting confidently on the back of his strong results at the NSW Title earlier in the year and was a stand out in his classes on the Saturday of the event, without question one of the fastest riders on track. Unfortunately, a small error in turn three resulted in quite a heavy impact with the track requiring Jarryd to attend hospital for the head knock and was ruled out of the remainder of the meeting as a result.
Of the club’s other representatives Alec Hirst continued his consistent form this year finishing the event as a finalist in the Pro 450 and Mx Open classes, Dale Austin represent the club strongly in the Women’s Open Class.
Lewis Tyne finished third in the Junior 250cc support class with the club also represented by Mackenzie Booth, Beau Baff, Tyler O’Donnell, Jorja O’Donnell and Alistar O’Donnell.
“It was another strong showing by our club at the highest levels of the sport, our members continue to showcase their skills at all levels of race meetings and with the re-emergence of our club’s clothing and race vests we really are starting to create a strong club identity on and off the race track,” Macleay District Motorcycle Club president Trent O’Donnell said.
The next event is the NSW Junior Dirt Track Championships this weekend at the Central Coast were the club with be represented by two-time 2018 Australian Junior Champion Jayden Holder who enters the event as a strong favourite along with Logan Davis, Jarred Loveday and Taite Davis.
