The event is in its 25th year and saw a number of local and interstate surfers ride the waves.
Treasurer of the Crescent Head Malibu Club, Bob Standing, said the event has grown in popularity over the years.
“It’s definitely become more popular, we have younger surfers entering the competition and the number of competitors has increased from previous years,” he said.
“The old style of surfing is becoming popular with younger generations.”
There are 110 competitors in the competition this year, with all divisions having full numbers.
Mr Standing said although it’s called a competition, it’s a very friendly atmosphere.
“It’s more for friends to catch up, show off their boards and have some fun.”
Locals gathered to watch the heats this morning and enjoyed refreshments and live music as well.
The event continues tomorrow morning, kicking off at 6.40am and finishing at 3.30pm.
