While Macleay Valley Rangers coach Keith Morn acknowledges defence wins games, he also knows you need to find the back of the net to taste victory.

That was the case when Port United met the Rangers a fortnight ago in the major semi-final, as Rangers overcame a 2-0 half-time deficit to secure a 4-2 victory in extra-time.
The defence was key in preventing United from extending their lead, but it was their goal scoring ability which won them the game.
The two sides clash again this Saturday, with a grand final spot on the line.
Morn is predicting another high scoring contest in the preliminary final and admits his goal scorers won’t be able to waste their opportunities.
Fortunately, Morn has arguably the best attack in the Premier League at his disposal with brothers Sam and Chad Applegate and Andrew Potter up front.
The three have hit their peak at the right end of the season, with Andrew and Sam scoring goals while Chad continues to improve in each game upon his return to football.
Chad had four seasons away from the game but returned to the field for the Rangers midway through the season.
“They are three good strikers, they can all score goals and make for a lethal combination,” Morn told the Argus.
“Chad wasn’t with us at the start of the year and had four years away from the game so it’s taken him a bit of time to find his feet but he has been getting better in every game.”
Chad had his fair share of opportunities against Wallis Lake in the grand final qualifier, but he wasn’t able to add his name to the scorer’s sheet.
Morn believes if Chad can find the back of the net early against Port United, then a flurry of goals could follow.
"He just needs to see one go in, then he will have the confidence and the flood gates could open,” Morn said.
Younger brother Sam isn’t a certain starter as he suffered an ankle injury in the 3-2 loss against Wallis Lake in the grand final qualifier.
Sam didn’t train on Tuesday night but will be given until the final minute to prove his fitness.
In another blow to Macleay Valley’s chances, stopper Ben Mitchell has been ruled out as he received his second yellow card of the finals series on Saturday.
Morn hasn’t decided on the changes he will make but he admits Ben is a massive loss.
Despite the potential lack of personal, Morn still claims it’s his sides game to lose.
“It will be a hard game but if we play to the best of our ability then we will win,” Morn said.
“We need to play for each other and match their intensity.
“They will come out and try to run us off the park but we need to stick to our game plan.”
The Rangers also face Port United in reserve grade, with the match kicking off at 12.45pm. The first grade contest will follow, with a scheduled start time of 2.30pm at Dangar St Oval.
