The show has been running for 17 years, and this year is set to be bigger than ever with around 100 people bringing their orchids from all over Australia.
The event is run by Ted and Winsome Walmsley, who have had orchids for around 60 years.
Their son Mark said the show has become an event where people can catch up with each other.
“Over the years the show has gotten bigger and it’s had to move locations due to the amount of people. A lot of people continue to come each year and catch up with the friends they’ve made, it’s turned into a social gathering as well as an orchid show,” he said.
“People from all over Australia bring their plants for the show, it’s one of the biggest national orchid shows in the country.”
On Friday night there will be a barbecue dinner and meeting for anyone interested in orchids at the bike track in Greenhill.
Saturday morning the orchids entered in the show will be judged and winners announced before the show opens to the public on Saturday afternoon.
A dinner will also be held on Saturday night at the Kempsey Heights Bowling Club for people who have entered the orchid show as well as any locals who are interested in attending – tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Bowling Club.
The orchid show will again be open to the public from 9am to 2pm on Father’s Day on Sunday for any locals wanting to view the prize-winning plants.
