There was a broad range of costumes, from Princesses and tigers to Where’s Wally and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, students and staff got behind the celebration and became literary icons for the day.
Librarian at Crescent Head Public School, Wendy Vermeulen, said the day was all about celebrating books and encouraging the students to read.
“Book Week is a celebration of books. Our school has now been celebrating for a month, we’re had three authors and illustrators come to the school to talk to the students and now today being able to include the community is great,” she said.
Students walked from the school down to the surf club where they put on a parade for parents, grandparents and locals before they read their favourite book to a family member, friend or member of the public.
“They were very excited to be able to read to an adult,” Ms Vermeulen said.
Representatives from the local Lions club and the police were also attended the event.
