Kempsey Saints Green celebrate minor premiership in Women’s league

In the Ladies comp, Saints fielded two teams again this year with quite a different mix from 2017. Most of the returning players made up Saints Green and the youngsters formed Saints White. 

Both the sides have trained together all season under the coaching of Amy O’Brien who elected not to play this year but instead signed up for the clubs player production program. O’Brien assisted by several other senior players has done a stellar job this year with both teams. 

The Green team has secured the minor premiership with the final round still to play. This team built through the season without any fanfare or big predictions and did the best job they could each week. It’s a well-deserved effort to finish top of the table after a full season and reflects their ability and bonding as a team. 

Saints White has also done extremely well with the team being run on a Saturday by Tracey Pietsch who is making the transition from Soccer Mum to Soccer Coach. White can still secure the last semi-final position but it will come down to the wire with Saints sitting fifth but only one point ahead of sixth. 

To see both Saints sides into the semis would be an outstanding achievement for all involved and testament to the commitment Saints has made to female football across the club. 

In the final round Green takes on Yowies and White take on fourth place Wauchope in their battle for fifth spot.

After unprecedented interest in the pre-season Saints made the decision to nominate three men’s team and two women’s sides.

This involved a huge commitment from the club to find coaching staff and players to fill all five teams.

In the Men’s comp Luke Flanagan and James Brady were joined by club stalwart Brett Sutherland to cover the three teams.

Men’s Coordinator Flanagan was set the task to fill all senior playing spots and make up the shortfall each weekend with juniors gaining senior experience on a Saturday afternoon.

It has been a water shed year for Saints fielding three full sides every week. The experience of the Green Machine saw them finish mid-table and in the last round take on Wauchope and could finish the season on a high.

Saints White are a very young squad and have posted some outstanding results this year but unfortunately six of their results have been draws and this has cost them dearly as with the extra points available they could be much higher on the table. They take on fifth place Port United in a tough last game.

The newcomers this year have been KSFC Saints known as the “Muddogs” they have put in an honest effort every week and as a team with lots of players returning to the sport after a few years away have got better as the season progressed. They finish with West Kempsey rivals Rangers in what is always a tough game.
