The Saints lost to Port United 3-1 in their last start, with United’s returning striker Josh Casey bagging a hat-trick.
United raced to an early 3-0 lead but the Saints were able to win the second half with the lone goal.
Saints’ position in the finals is now in danger with the Camden Haven Redbacks and Forster-Tuncurry Tigers trailing by one and three respective competition points.
The Saints face the Tigers this Saturday and the opportunity is there for them to knock them out of contention for the finals while further cementing their own position.
Saints started the season strongly but their defence has been cracked open over the past month.
The side has conceded 20 goals and scored 14 goals in their 10 matches this season.
Saints weren’t able to stop the early onslaught from United.
“Things were probably going a bit easy, but I think that was because of the effort the guys were putting in, not because of Kempsey Saints,” Port United coach Nathan Wade said.
“Kempsey tried up until the last minute, but we were doing it easy because we were moving the ball swiftly like the Taree game.”
