Taree Wildcats coach Rod Bartley said a defensive style of play was key to his side’s 2-0 win over Kempsey in round eight of Football Mid North Coast Premier League.

As both goals came in the first half, the Wildcats worked from the back to ensure the Saints didn’t have a chance to get back in the contest.
Rod credited goalkeeper Curtis Jones and the side’s defenders for their efforts.
“We put them away in the first half. There was a patch of about ten minutes in the second half where Curtis made some key saves.
"Our back defensive five were great,” Rod said.
It’s an open comp and anyone is beatable.

Rod added that his side was embarrassed by Wallis Lake the week before.
This loss acted as encouragement for the side to bounce back.
Rod said the win over Kempsey highlighted the competitiveness of all clubs in the competition.
“Kempsey have been going along well,” Rod said.
“It’s an open comp and anyone is beatable.”
The Wildcats moved into third on table with this their third win from the last four rounds. They have 15 competition points alongside Kempsey but have scored more goals and a game in hand. The Wildcats take on Camden Haven Redbacks after the long weekend break.
