Doing it for our farmers is a new group of volunteers that are dedicated to raising awareness and helping Australian farmers. They have partnered with Aussie Helpers to distribute the donations collected to farmers that are doing it tough.
Drop points throughout NSW have been set up for locals to donate any new or unopened toiletries they can spare or afford.
Samantha Hughes from Kempsey Stock and Land said the community should get behind this cause to help struggling farmers.
“The majority of our community is based on rural sales. Because of the drought and the price drop in cattle sales, it ends up flowing onto the community and businesses in town,” Ms Hughes said.
Many Australian farmers are currently experiencing drought conditions and are spending their money on feed for their livestock and going without their own basic necessities like toiletries. This has been the driving force behind Doing it for our farmers starting up this donation drive.
Ms Hughes said although in the Macleay the drought situation isn’t as bad as out west, it’s still affecting the region.
“People don’t understand why cattle prices here have dropped from $4 a kilogram to $1.50. The drought is affecting people here too but it’s so much worse for people out west and this drive is something we can do to help out, that’s why I wanted to get involved,” Mrs Hughes said.
The donation drive is now open and locals can drop off any new or unopened toiletry supplies to Kempsey Stock and Land at 1/44 Forth St Kempsey.
