Lloyd Hudson enters Group Three Hall of Fame

The champion prop is the first Kempsey player to enter the "Hall of Fame" since its conception in 2013.

Granddaughter Emily Lee represented the family at the ceremony at Wingham Services Club on Saturday, November 25.

"It was good to see everybody that came and paid their respects," she said.

"He would be very happy, very proud - the game meant a lot to him.

"Thank you to the community that were behind him in everything that he did."

Hudson played in three premiership winning Central Kempsey sides from 1947 to 1949 before being recruited by North Sydney, where he played 89 first grade games from 1950 to 1955.

Over the course of a distinguished career he represented Sydney, City and Country, Northern NSW, North Coast and twice played for NSW against Qld.

Central Kempsey's favourite son returned as captain-coach in 1956, leading the team to premiership glory.

In 1962, he cemented himself as one the greatest to ever grace the field at Verge St.

Now the oldest player in the central Kempsey lineup, captain-coach Hudson, a former Australian Army heavyweight boxing champion, was reportedly still the fittest and he courageous war horse used this motor to march Central Kempsey to a Grand Final berth.

Despite clinching the minor premiership, Hudson's men entered the big dance as underdogs against a more fancied Port Macquarie side that included ex-Australian player Frank Stanmore.

Central Kempsey, under the guideance of thier great mentor and leader defied the punters to come away with an emphatic 12-7 victory.

In his later years, Hudson taught the Macleay's youth boxing in his gym and enjoyed volunteering for the Mustangs.

He passed in 2015, aged 92.

Mustangs recognised Lloyd Hudson at Verge St in 2016, naming the gates in his memory.

Also inducted into the Group 3 Rugby League Hall of Fame were Robert ‘Rocky’ Laurie (Wauchope), Jake Kennett (Wingam) and Joe White (Gloucester).
