Melville High School’s Under 15s Women’s football team advanced to the final 16 teams in NSW, QLD and Victoria after showing their class in a 2-0 victory over McAuley Catholic College Grafton in the Bill Turner Trophy.

Melville were rarely troubled and held the majority of possession and territory throughout the contest.
They made their advantage count on the scoreboard with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
Melville’s attack down the left flank led to Hannah Bannerman receiving possession in the box and she calmly slotted the ball by the McAuley keeper.
They remained on the front foot in the second half as they pushed to extend their lead and they were rewarded when Kayley Roberts’ shot from outside the 18-yard box was out of reach of the goalkeeper and it sailed into the back of the net.
Melville continued to dominate the game for the remainder of match but they didn’t trouble the scoring further.
In her first year as coach, Emma Tamblyn is excited for her team’s progress.
“I am very happy for the girls, it is an awesome achievement to be one of the final 16 teams across three states,” Tamblyn said.
“It is special to advance this far, especially as a small country school.
“They all played so well, controlled the possession and tempo of the match and I am very proud of their efforts.”
They will face Trinity College Lismore in the next round with the winning side advancing through to the quarterfinals.
