Jakob Czippan-Sowter, Calissa Percival, Patrick Brennan and Jessica Thomas’ group performance of a scene from Romeo and Juliet was judged to be the best, despite facing some tough opposition.
“They were up against some pretty prestigious high schools from Sydney but the four of them were just fantastic,” the group’s drama teacher Amanda Jordan said.
“Their commitment to the scene, each other and the characters was perfect.”
The year 10 students performed in front of a packed Seymour Centre, which seats up to 1,400 people.
Mrs Jordan said the students are still getting their heads around their success.
“They were in a lot of shock after they won and were absolutely blown away,” she said.
“They are still on cloud nine.”
The students received an engraved ring to keep as champions while the school will keep the trophy on display.
“The school is very proud of them, principal Kevin Lewis was in attendance along with all of their parents,” Mrs Jordan said.
“I am especially so proud and it was great to see them progress and develop as performers.
“It is one thing to get to that level to perform but another thing to earn the win.”
There was 34 performance on the night, with the St Paul’s College students competing in the group category.
