Cattle breeders Marion and Bryan Watts are among a number of enthusiastic local converts, they previously ran dexters but have converted to the galloways on their stud, Crystal Waters, at 1021 South Arm Rd, Bowraville.
The couple, together with the two Australian Galloway Associations are hosting a field day on Sunday, September 18 to raise awareness about the breed and its suitability to the area.
“The breed is originally from Scotland and has been here in Australia for 40 years,” Bryan said.
“We have 15 head currently in our stud line, including two working bulls. We are trying to build up our herd but they are in strong demand! “We only have 28 acres here, so smaller cattle suit the area well.”
The field day will begin at 8.30am with a meet and greet, followed by an inspection of the farm.
Morning tea will be served at neighbouring South Arm Hall, as will lunch.
There will be talks from cattle judge, Dennis Griffis, a local vet nurse on animal health and a final presentation about preparing cattle for showing and show ring etiquette.
The cost of the day is $20 with all proceeds going to the South Arm Hall.
RSVP by September 14 for catering purposes – call Marion on 6564 8897 or email bmwattsy@gmail.com.
