On the charity day members make quilts for others, plus cushions and bags for breast cancer survivors.
In past years they have made 60 to 70 quilts for flood and fire victims in Queensland, Victoria and NSW; rice bags for East Timor; stylish breast cancer bags for drainage bottles; and satin breast cancer cushions.
In March this year they began sewing laundry bags and quilts for 'Aussie Heroes', who are men and women serving overseas in the Australian forces.
To date they have made 13 quilts and more than 70 laundry bags.
When they are ready to post, they email a photo of the quilt to Jan-Maree, the organiser of Aussie Heroes.
She matches the quilt design to a service person who would appreciate it. The quilt is then posted directly overseas to where the person is deployed.
The laundry bags are parcelled up into a postage box with a packet of lollies, treats and a personal letter written by one of the quilters.
They are a touch of home for the service men and women and let them know they are being thought of.
The Kempsey-Macleay RSL Sub-branch has donated $250 towards the cost of fabric, wadding and boxes, and the quilters are grateful.
However, the cost of postage boxes, fabric and wadding continues to add up.
